Word Creation Exhibits I am increasingly convinced that music is not, in essence, a thing which can be cast
into a traditional and fixed form.

First literary directions were avant-garde plays and prose creations, then "poetry," a few left hand margin free verse forms, although I rejected the traditional poetry, or verse, techniques. I turned away from the traditional writing forms to free my imagination for invention of form that I understood was encouraged by modern visual art, jazz and classical music. The first literary form I "invented" for myself was set in the middle of the page with uneven margins. Next, I placed words, phrases and blocks of words freely in the page space. I then moved on to forms I began to term word creations with the far right hand margin, others with lines moving across a horizontal page, then I created forms spacing word lines wider than 'normal,' continuinh on by filling the whole page with words and phrases spaced wider than normal between lines, which I followed with words, phrases and word-blocks in the whole page space. I termed this 'designing the page,' creating for wall display reading, moving away from the book page. I then blew the word design of the page wide open, coining these creations "charteng." The visual aspect of the page, the use of space, played a major role in the newer word creations. I also worked with serial pieces to be framed for wall display continuing my move away from the book page for reading, following these with increased size words, phrases and word-blocks on large size sheets up to 36 inches in width for wall display. I began finally to work with word creations of large single words on large size sheets up to 8 feet wide for wall display reading. So be it. |
